Guangming Lake
Guangming Lake Greenway will be developed into the largest suburban lake recreational area in Shenzhen, according to a report from the Shenzhen Guangming WeChat account.
Construction on the project commenced in August 2023, and is expected to be completed in 334 days.
Shenzhen, as a coastal city, is abundant in mountain and sea landscapes but lacks large-scale lake areas. The development of the greenway will fill this gap and create the largest suburban lake recreational area in the city. It will offer local residents a picturesque view of clear water, green shores, fish swimming in shallow water, lush water grass, and flocks of egrets.
Guangming Lake, previously known as Gongming Reservoir, was constructed by merging several reservoirs including Henggang, Jingkou, Shitou Lake, and Luocun reservoirs. It is the first large reservoir in Shenzhen with a storage capacity exceeding 100 million cubic meters.
Located in the upper reaches of Xinpitou River, a tributary of Maozhou River, Guangming Lake is surrounded by the Great Barrier Forest Park in the east, Guangming Happy Countryside in the west, Huangjiang Town in Dongguan in the north, and Dadingling Mountain Forest Park in the south. With mountains on three sides, the lake has a picturesque landscape. Its water surface area spans approximately 6 square kilometers, comparable to the famous West Lake in Hangzhou. The normal storage capacity is 142 million cubic meters, while the total storage capacity reaches 148 million cubic meters.
The greenway will connect to Dadingling Greenway in the south, passing through Jingkou Village, Happy Countryside, and Tian'an Valley. In the north, it will extend to Shigougong Reservoir, connecting with the Guangming Forest Park suburban trail, thus forming a 25-kilometer circular slow travel route around the lake.
Furthermore, this project will establish a shared slow travel system in Guangming Science City, creating three distinctive rings for sports: a 42-kilometer mountain and lake marathon route, a 25-kilometer mountain and forest leisure route, and a 20-kilometer bicycle race route.
The project's design principle follows the concept of allowing citizens to share nature's beauty on the west side while making lake conservation on the east side.
