District deputies attend the second session of the second People's Congress of Guangming District.
Guangming District introduced 170 new foreign-funded projects in 2023, an increase of 77.1% year on year, according to a government report made by the district leader Jan. 24.
The second session of the second People's Congress of Guangming District kicked off at the Guangming Cultural and Art Center on Jan. 24. A total of 166 district deputies attended the meeting. Qiu Haohang, head of the district government, delivered a work report to the congress, reviewing the work of 2023 and reporting on the work arrangements for 2024.
The district's actual utilization of foreign capital reached US$87.24 million, up by 244% year on year. Nearly 30 international exchange events were held, including the International Biotechnology Innovation and Investment Conference, Global Sensor Development Conference, and China New Energy Guangming Summit.
The report pointed out that over the past year, the district experienced rapid and stable economic growth. The added value of large-scale industries reached 100.7 billion yuan (US$14.22 billion), an increase of 9.2%. Fixed asset investment reached 108.97 billion yuan, an increase of 15.7%. The total retail sales of consumer goods reached 25.92 billion yuan, an increase of 8.9%.
Guangming District was also selected as one of the "Top 100 Industrial Districts" in the nation last year. Strategic emerging industries achieved an added value of 92.5 billion yuan, with a growth rate of 10%, accounting for over 60% of the district's GDP. The number of industrial enterprises exceeded 140, with a total valuation exceeding 32 billion yuan. The number of listed companies increased to 32.
The district's total research and development investment exceeded 10 billion yuan for the first time, accounting for 7.1% of its GDP.
The district boasted 27 academician teams and 2,541 high-level talents. It also saw 251 new PCT international patent applications last year, and the number of effective invention patents reached 14,000, rising 24% year on year.
Nineteen key reform projects were promoted, and more than 80 reform measures were introduced in 2023.
Sixteen new parks were built, and the total length of greenways and hiking trails in the district exceeded 350 kilometers.
The district's expenditure on nine major livelihood categories reached 15.96 billion yuan, up 13.1% year on year. Nine schools and 11 kindergartens were built or renovated, providing an additional 16,700 basic public education admissions.
Funds were raised to construct 12,000 units of affordable housing. Among them, 11,000 units have been distributed. The district government also organized more than 150 cultural performances and over 60 high-end sports events in 2023.
